There is nothing you can tell the police today that you cannot tell them tomorrow with a lawyer. Just say "I want a lawyer"
Your Story Matters

We will find the evidence to do that together. #HonestResults

Protect Your Rights
You have the Right to say, “I want a lawyer before answering any questions.”
The police may ask questions anyway. There is nothing you can do to stop them. The best way to handle this is to say nothing. Do not let them provoke you. In some situations, an officer can demand an ID so they can issue a summons rather than arrest you. Warning: Failing to provide ID may result in a night in jail. Do not argue with police on the street. Just be silent. If there is a good argument, it is best to make it in Court, with a lawyer, in front of a judge. Your argument on the street may hurt your chance in court and will not get the officer to change the arrest decision.
You have the Right to say, “I do not consent to any search.”
The police might search anyway. There is nothing you can do at that moment to stop them. We can discuss this in Court. It may lead to a good outcome. It is best if you simply watch without moving or saying anything else. Your argument on the street may hurt your chance in court and will not get the officer to change the search/arrest decision. While most Colorado officers have body cam, you are allowed to record them as well. I recommend that you turn on your phone recorder without saying anything or making obvious recording motions. Colorado law allows a person to record any conversation they are a participant in or where they are present. In practice, saying you are recording will likely result in unpleasant officer or witness behavior. If you do not tell them, they are more likely to act “normal.”
